Activating an energy supply for the first time

Activate your electricity and gas supply

This article regards the first activation of a new power or gas meter, in the case you are the first tenants of a newly-built house for instance.

How to activate your energy supply?

Gas or electricity, you should contact the supplier you have chosen. Indeed, it's always the supplier that will take care of the procedures with the local distribution network operator (DNO), that manages your meter.

Electricity

Your supplier must contact the DNO within 2 working days after your request.

The DNO must comply with this request within 5 working days.

As a whole, electricity should be activated in not more than 7 working days.

• What do you need to know and have ready?
• The electricity meter identification code (POD)
• The ID document of the contract holder
• The contact information (adress, phone number, cellphone) of the contract holder
• The power (in kW) you need and if your home will be your fiscal residence or a second home

Gas

The procedure is similar to the one regarding the electricity supply, with your supplier acting as an intermediary between you and the DNO. The main difference regards the safety certification of your installation.

• What do you need to know and have ready?
• The gas meter identification code (PDR)
• The ID document of the contract holder
• The contact information (adress, phone number, cellphone) of the contract holder
• Form "Allegato H " required by the DNO
• Form "Allegato I ", a certificate filled by the installer of the gas system (i.e boiler)

How much does it cost?

For electricity, the administrative fee costs 23 € and the stamp duty 14,62 €. An additional security deposit may be requested by your supplier.

For gas, the cost of the activation is ca. 40 €.
